About the Role
We're seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team. As a Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing the data infrastructure that powers Grammarly's products and services. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive upgrades, improve data accessibility, and build high-scale distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement data models and storage structures to support Grammarly's growing data needs
- Develop streaming processes for derived events and aggregated data to enable real-time insights
- Model construction, storage, and access of data at high volumes for our data lakehouse
- Improve developer efficiency and self-serve solutions by contributing components to our stream data processing framework(s)
- Own data engineering's infrastructure as-code for provisioning services that enable our developers to deliver mature software stacks within hours
- Build high-performance processes that enable our systems to scale
- Mentor and coach other back-end engineers in the team to help them grow
- Contribute to the development of AWS high-scale distributed systems
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java
- Knowledge of database design and SQL query writing
- Experience designing and standing up APIs and services
- Familiarity with system design and building internal tools
- Experience working with data from data lakes
- Some experience building internal Admin UIs
- Good knowledge of AWS (or similar cloud platforms such as Azure or GCE)
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following skills and experience can give you a competitive edge:
- Experience with data engineering frameworks and tools such as Apache Beam, Spark, or Flink
- Knowledge of data warehousing and business intelligence concepts
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, or Jenkins
- Experience with Agile development methodologies
